I have always been interested in using science to study the natural world as a way to increase my Faith and better understand God. I received my B.S in Chemical Biosciences from the University of Oklahoma, and my M.S. in Biology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. My scientific approach is to integrate multiple fields of biology to study biological systems and phenomena. My previous research has included studying the cardiac performance of anoxia-tolerant turtles, the cardiac performance of salmon fry, and the venom tolerance of grasshopper mice using physiological, electrophysiological, molecular, genetic, and phylogenetic approaches. My current research is focused on using the visual system of cichlid fishes to gain insight into epigenetics.
